Calling rates to Oman

Oman is a country strategically located at the mouth of the Persian Gulf's. It is bordered by Pakistan and Iran, with whom Oman shares access to the Persian Gulf and Arabian Sea. A significant portion of the Oman's revenue each year comes from tourism—mainly because of the large amount of shoreline it covers.

Oman's official language is Arabic. There are a number of indigenous languages spoken by small groups throughout the country, too. In addition, German is often taught in school as a secondary language.

  • Oman rose to prominence and wealth through the incense trade, exporting as far away as the Roman Empire. The Boswellia tree, from which frankincense is extracted, only grows indigenously in southern Oman and in Yemen.
  • The world's second largest cave system called Majlis al Jinn is found in Oman. This name translates to "Meeting Place of the Spirits".
  • The Tropic of Cancer passes through Oman, along with 16 other countries.
  • Oman has traditionally been known for breeding purebred Arab horses.
  • Oman, the only country that begins with the letter "O," is immediately bordered by Yemen, the only country that begins with the letter "Y".
  • Oman has a long tradition of shipbuilding. Some of the most famous ships worldwide are build in Oman.
  • Omani cuisine is quite varied and has been influenced by its neighbors. In general, the main meal of the day is eaten at midday, rather than late in the day.
  • Animal-related sports are very popular in Oman. This includes horse and camel racing as well as bullfighting and falconry. However, the country participates in other sports as well—for instance, it has worked to send a team to the FIFA World Cup, though thus far has been unsuccessful.
